For those of you who have not heard of LibraryThing, this is an excellent resource where you can build a library of your favourite books.
However LibraryThing is much more than just a personal bookself- you can add tags to your books, you can find recommendations for new books to read based on what you like, you can chat to others who share your tastes and you can join in discussions about your favourite books...or the ones you hate!

Also keep an eye out for LibraryThing tags when searching our catalogue! Some texts, expecially our fiction collection have LibraryThing tags included in their library record, click on any of the tags and LibraryThing will return a list of books available in the library that you might also like to read.

Knockanstockan festival 25-27 July 2008

Summer is here finally and we are all in the mood for a party.

So why not check out the The Ballyknockan Music Festival where you can listen to new and up and coming Irish bands and support a good cause at the same time.

It raises funds for Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, with all monies raised go directly to the charity and all bands have donated their services for the cause.

The festival is hosted by the Ballyknockan Inn, a legendary music venue in West Wicklow featuring live bands every weekend of the year. This year's festival will take place on the weekend of 25th, 26th and 27th July and it is hoped it will be the biggest yet. There are two stages this year and the organisers are hoping to offer camping close by for the first time. Things get under way on Friday 25th at 7.00 pm and on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th at 2.00 pm. For more see

The best free software

Are you a bit scared of free software?
Free software can come with spyware, advertising or limiting restrictions that can cause you to scream with frustration.

So to help you get the software you need and to ease your stress levels- I have selected two websites I find helpful.

PC Magazine published an article where they asked staff to recommend their favourite free software. The article was written in 2007 but the information is still relevant and very useful, especially for non technies.

I also like Gizmo Tech Support Advice website, which has easy to use categories and descriptions of free software.

So why spend money on software when you can get it for free and it has been reviewed by experts?
